Case Study: Doubling Conversions with Emojis

Recently, we did something pretty cool: we split-tested two landing pages differing only in the use of emojis to see if they could make a difference.

Spoiler alert: they did, and it was a big deal! Let’s dive into this simple yet game-changing experiment that shows sometimes, it’s the little things that count the most.

The experiment

At LanderLab, we like to practice what we preach.

We are firm believers in split-testing your landing pages religiously. That’s why we’ve made A/B testing dead simple inside LanderLab.

Anyway, today I wanted to share with you the results of a very interesting split test we ran. We were planning a webinar a few months ago.

People from our mailing lists would sign up for the webinar by filling in a few fields on a landing page. However, being the nerds we are, we wanted to split-test two different versions of the signup page.

At first sight, the landing pages are similar, apart from simple changes. We changed the headline slightly and added emojis across the page without expecting major changes in the signup rate.

A few hours later, we got the results, which I’m sharing below:

The variant illustrated with emojis secured more than double the signups, a testament to the potent influence of these colorful characters. It was an outcome that not only surprised but also delighted us, prompting a swift transition of 100% of the traffic to the winning lander. As you can see, even though the visitors are roughly the same amount, there is a huge difference in clicks and leads. Variant A where we added the emojis had 188 clicks and 125 leads, achieving 65 more leads than Variant B.

Conclusion

So, what did we learn? It’s pretty simple: testing small changes can make a huge difference. Adding emojis might seem small, but for us, it spiced up our landing pages.
