Why use UTM tracking

Stop guessing where your conversions come from. UTM-tagged links plug straight into Google Analytics and every modern ad platform, so every dollar you spend is measurable.

Better campaign tracking

See which source, medium and campaign actually drives clicks and conversions, not just total traffic.

Cleaner analytics

Consistent UTM tags keep your Google Analytics reports tidy and let you slice traffic by exact channel.

Easy attribution

Attribute every signup, sale or lead back to the exact ad, post or email that brought the visitor in.

Faster marketing workflow

Stop hand-crafting URLs in a spreadsheet. Build, copy and ship UTM links in seconds without errors.

Where teams use UTM links

From paid ads to newsletters, here’s how marketers put UTM-tagged URLs to work across every channel.

Google & Meta Ads

Tag every paid campaign to compare cost-per-conversion across networks, audiences and creatives.

Email campaigns

Track newsletters, drip sequences and broadcasts so you can see which emails actually move the needle.

Social media

Separate organic Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn traffic from paid placements with clean utm_medium values.

Influencer collabs

Give every partner a unique UTM so you can prove ROI and reward your top performers with confidence.

Affiliate programs

Track affiliate clicks alongside the rest of your channels in Google Analytics, no extra scripts needed.

QR codes & print

Bake a UTM into the URL behind a QR code or vanity link to measure footfall from offline campaigns.

FAQs

UTM parameters are short tags you add to the end of a URL to tell analytics tools where a visitor came from. The five standard ones are utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content. Google Analytics, Mixpanel, HubSpot and most other platforms read them automatically.
Without UTMs, all your traffic from social, email and ads gets bucketed together. With UTMs you can answer real questions like which ad creative converts best, which newsletter drove the most signups or whether your TikTok or Instagram audience is more valuable.
A UTM link is a normal URL with extra query parameters appended after a question mark, for example https://yourpage.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=summer_sale. When someone clicks the link, analytics tools record those parameters next to the visit, so you can group reports by source, medium or campaign.
Yes. UTMs are the standard Google Analytics uses to attribute traffic. Any URL you build here works out of the box in Google Analytics 4, Universal Analytics, GTM and any other tool that respects the utm_ convention.
utm_source is the specific platform or publisher sending the traffic (google, facebook, newsletter). utm_medium is the type of channel (cpc, email, social, banner). Source answers "where", medium answers "how". Keep both lowercase and consistent across campaigns so your reports stay clean.

Yes. UTM values are case-sensitive in most analytics tools, so Facebook and facebook show up as two separate sources. Stick to lowercase and use underscores or hyphens instead of spaces to avoid splitting your data.
No. The URL is built entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your destination URL and campaign values never leave your device and are never sent to our servers.
